Serreal America - Video informaion

Serreal America was based on several drift walks. My strategy was to look for a way of life, a heartbeat. I have been thinking of the city of Milwaukee as an Organism, something that is alive. I wanted to use the two drift walks one and two to examine and experiment with the things that keep effect Milwaukee.

For the video, Serreal America I was shock as to what it ended up being. I had a totally different idea about how I would capture footage and use it in the editing room. However when I walked up and down my drift area several times a chain reaction started to happen. I started noticing a trend on the street. A particular way of life that stood out. Since I walk my drift area several times a day to get to and from my house. I didn't always have my camera on me but I always carry a note pad and pencil in back pocket. So I recorded the instances I found particulary interesting. So for some parts of the drift walk I used a pencil and paper to record the ideas. These ideas needed to be place into a final video demonstration of my drift walk. So I reanacted them. I do want to note that this did break an element of what I was searching for, I never intended to look for the particular feelings or things. In my ten questions they represent a different idea to things I would look for and think about, but I became completely consumed by the moment of walking up and down the street; I became submersed into an issue, which is leading an obsession.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the video. I had recieved some critisisim on it because it broke the a rule in the class, and I am sorry. I never intended to break the natural and sparatic rule of the assignment. I really thought I was contributing an element that would not be frown upon.

Milwaukee Speaks, Drift Strategy

My drift strategy for Milwaukee Speaks was to exploit the idea of control. The idea of control overlaps with the theme from my last drift walk. My last drift walk consisted of revealing something deeper about Milwaukee, something that is not thought of when thinking about the city. Milwaukee Speaks, drift will start a block past North Avenue. I will walk up Prospect Ave. against the traffic. I will look for objects, things, people that demonstrated any sense of control, whether it be good or bad. I will take photos, video recordings, and sound recordings, of anything that offers a feeling of control. I will stop walking once I reach Brady street. The corner of Brady street and Prospect Ave is where I enter the Milwaukee River Trail for my last drift walk. I want to connect those points. I also want to continue down the trail. I will start my drift walk again from where I stopped on my last drift walk. I walk down the trail looking for objects, things, people that are off the trail. I will take photos, video recordings, and sound recordings of anything that extends a feelings of control either good or bad. I will stop on the trail once I walk the same distance as I did down Prospect Ave.
